Biography


Louis J. Keleher, Esq. handles any type of criminal offense including weapons charges, drug charges, domestic violence offenses, and traffic violations. He has successfully handled hundreds of criminal cases over the years and can handle your matter from beginning to end, including detention hearings, motions to suppress evidence, trials and appeals.
Louis also handled numerous civil matters including hearings of expulsion before the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor, hearings of expulsion for a Chief of a local volunteer fire department, Preliminary Notice of Disciplinary Actions, hearings of revocation of teaching certificates before the office of administrative law, federal civil rights violations lawsuits, federal breach of contract and fraud lawsuits, wrongful imprisonment lawsuits, wrongful death lawsuits, complex commercial disputes, state breach of contract and fraud lawsuits, malpractice lawsuits, landlord-tenant matters, divorce, orders to show cause as well as representing clients in AAA binding arbitration matters.
Louis had also regularly appeared before the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, where he had won an interlocutory appeal to stay a sexual assault trial pending the result of State v. J.L.G., 229 N.J. 606 (2017), which ultimately invalidated numerous aspect of Child Sexual Abuse Accommodation Syndrome (CSAAS), and represented clients filing appeals of murder convictions, illegal criminal sentencings, dismissals of civil lawsuits, applications for bail pending appeal, emergent appeals, appeals of agency decisions and interlocutory appeals.

In the course of his impressive career, Louis has also victoriously appeared before the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, including in cases to appeal criminal convictions and pretrial detention orders, as well as motions for reconsideration. His formidable legal experience encompasses courts, tribunals, and arbitrations across the States of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and federal jurisdictions.

Mr. Keleher also handles a wide array of domestic violence related issues including domestic violence restraining order trials, extreme risk protection orders (TERPO), gun permit appeals, and weapons forfeiture issues.

Originally from New Brunswick, Louis has been an outstanding member of the community from his time as an Eagle Scout and ultimately, a Senior Patrol Leader for the Boy Scouts of America. He received his Juris Doctor Degree from Rutgers Law School in 2017, where he also served on behalf of the Rutgers Community & Transactional Lawyering Clinic providing pro bono legal services under the direction of Professor Charles Auffant & Robert Holmes, to indigent clients. In addition, Louis earned the role of Teaching Assistant to Professor Louis Raveson in his joint Evidence and Trial Presentation Class, which allowed him to assist in the instruction of his colleagues on topics such as the Rules of Evidence and the mechanics of litigation.

In his current practice as a zealous legal advocate for clients in a vast array of criminal, restraining order, and weapons forfeiture matters, he appears in courts throughout Bergen County. He also continues to dedicate particular focus to the realm of appeals in firearms permitting, criminal, and civil weapons matters.
